Q: My 3 year old has a wet cough. Is Nectadyn CoughFree Cough Syrup by Heel USA a safe choice?Any other advice would be much appreciated as well.
A: Yes Nectadyn is safe for children over the age of 2. Nectadyn is a homeopathic base in honey. A child must be over 2 yrs old in order to use this product as it contains honey.
Other things that are useful for a wet cough in children:
- Crush garlic and put on a plate by their bed at night. Garlic oils are very potent anti-viral and anti-bacterial.
- Humidifier with peppermint oil drops and sea salt mixed in the water if the cough is constant and spasmodic. Make sure you use filtered water in the humidifier as chlorine is a lung irritant.
- N-Acetyl Cysteine is a potent lung nutrient which is helpful for wet coughs. Mixing 1/3 capsule of N-Acetyl L Cysteine in apple sauce. Give this during the day and afternoon. Do not give at night or after 3pm as it encourages mucous to come up and out.
- Kali Sulph 6x, Nat Sulph 6x and Ferrum Phos 6x cell salts. These cell salts are indicated for wet coughs. Mix 5 tablets of each together in tiny bit of warm filtered water. Have your child put the liquid with the cell salts in their mouth and swish around for a few seconds before swallowing. They taste good so no problem there! You may also add them to the Cough Free syrup for added efficacy.
