About Lactase Drops 0.5 Ounce - Seeking Health

natural treatment for lactose intoleranceCan't Digest Lactose? Lactase Drops Can!  Using a liquid lactase enzyme supplement is a natural treatment for lactose intolerance that's easy to use and versatile.  If lactose intolerance is preventing you and your family from enjoying dairy-containing foods, Lactase Drops will provide relief.

Whether you miss enjoying a bowl of ice cream, cooking and baking with dairy foods, or are the parent of a lactose intolerant child, a potent liquid lactase enzyme supplement is the solution you're looking for.  Instead of buying expensive pre-treated lactose-free milk, you can make your own at home from the milk of your choice for less!  The compact bottle does not require refrigeration and fits easily in bags or suitcases for natural relief from lactose intolerance wherever you go!

Since different people experience different degrees of lactose intolerance, liquid Lactase Drops are more cost effective than capsules or tablets.  The dose can be tailored to the drop so that you experience relief from symptoms of lactose intolerance without spending more money than necessary.  Milk or yogurt treated with liquid lactase enzyme can be used in cooking and baking, so you can simply enjoy the food you've created instead of swallowing costly pills.

Due to popular demand and a glaring need to have an effective liquid lactase in the United States, Dr Ben developed a liquid lactase supplement, called Lactase Drops, that is:

  • Laboratory certified effective and potent: 5 drops is enough to reduce lactose by 80% in 1 pint of milk over 24 hours
  • Far less expensive than commercially available lactose-free dairy products
  • More potent than Lactaid Drops
  • Less expensive than Lactaid Drops
  • Laboratory tested for molds, yeasts, fungi and bacteria
  • Free of preservatives, flow agents and fillers.
  • 76 servings per container, treats 76 pints of milk,
  • free of common allergens like soy, wheat, corn, casein, gluten
  • BPA free and pthalate free packaging.
  • Easy to use: simply drop 5 drops into a liter of any type of milk, wait 24 hours and then drink. This method allows the liquid lactase supplement to digest most of the lactose.
  • Easy to administer to children as the liquid lactase tastes quite sweet.
  • Safe to use in breastmilk or formula (once mixed) and administer to infants.

Frequently Asked Questions about Lactase Drops

Q. How many drops to use if the recommended dosage does not work?
If you are using Lactase Drops, adding them to a dairy product and allowing to sit 24 hours, you have two options.
1. Increase the time as more time allows the Lactase Drops to work longer in digesting the lactose.
2. Increase the amount of Lactase Drops by adding 1 extra drop.

If you are adding Lactase Drops to a glass of milk or any dairy product and then consuming it immediately without waiting, simply increase the amount of drops by 1 if you are still experiencing lactose intolerance. Continue adding 1 drop if you still experience lactose intolerance.

Q. What is better: to put the drops in breast milk or the baby’s tongue?
If you are breast feeding and not using bottles, simply place a drop of Lactase Drops on your nipple at the start of breast feeding.

If you are pumping and storing breast milk in the fridge or cooler, it is best to add Lactase Drops right to the breast milk in the container.

Add Lactase Drops to refrigerated or warmed breast milk (or formula) only.

Do not add Lactase Drops to breast milk which will immediately go into the freezer. This will kill the lactase enzyme.

Remember to use ProBiota Infant in addition to Lactase Drops for your newborn to 2 year old child. Probiota Infant will greatly enhance the long-term digestive abilities of your child along with supporting the development of their immune system.

Q. OK to take Lactase Drops for infants younger than 6 months?
Yes. One may use Lactase Drops on newborns safely.

Q. Do you really have to wait 24 hours before drinking the treated milk. If so, why?
If you are not severely lactose intolerant, no, you do not. Many people drink or eat dairy products immediately after adding Lactase Drops. You may have to add more Lactase Drops to the dairy product if you are going to consume it immediately; but it depends entirely on your level of lactose intolerance.

The longer you wait, the more lactose will be converted into glucose and galactose.

The 24 hour guideline is for adding Lactase Drops to any somewhat liquid dairy product and then placing it back in the cold fridge. Keep in mind that the lactase enzyme works best in warmer temperatures. This means if you add Lactase Drops to your glass of milk and then drink it, your body will warm the Lactase Drops up considerably and increase the activity of it; thereby decreasing the lactose levels internally - without waiting 24 hours.

Q. How many drops to put in 1 cup of milk?
Into one cup of milk, 2 drops of Lactase Drops should be sufficient. Some people may require less.

Q. How many drops to put in 1 gallon of milk?
Into one gallon of milk, we recommend starting with 40 drops of Lactase Drops. Some people experience no lactose intolerance symptoms when using only 14 drops in a gallon of milk  (per a user testimonial). Some others say the 40 drops is just right for them.

Start with 40 drops of Lactase Drops per gallon of milk and then work down to see how much you need. Perhaps you'll only need 30 drops or 20 drops per gallon.

Q. What if Lactase Drops doesn’t work for me? Any alternatives?
Lactase Drops has an extremely high success rate. Two laboratory tests - both independent - have demonstrated the effectiveness of Lactase Drops. If you are not experiencing reduction in lactose intolerance (gas, bloating, diarrhea, constipation), then simply need to add more Lactase Drops or wait longer before using the dairy product.

For long term reduction of lactose intolerance, it is recommended you add ProBiota 12 to your daily intake. ProBiota 12 contains 25 billion beneficial bacteria and many of them are designed to breakdown lactose. Simply take 1 capsule of ProBiota 12 after dinner on a nightly basis. This way, you are increasing the amount of beneficial bacteria which are able to breakdown lactose in your digestive system, improving your immune system and your bowel movements will likely be considerably improved as well.

Q. Can this be used in warm heated milk?
As long as the temperature of the heated milk does not exceed 100 degrees Farhenheit.

Two options:
1) Warm the milk first, then add Lactase Drops just prior to drinking.
2) Open the container of milk, say a 1/2 gallon or 1 gallon of milk, add 20 drops to the 1/2 gallon of milk and 40 drops to the 1 gallon of milk. Wait 24 hours. Then heat up the milk to any temperature you want.

You may even cook with milk treated 24 hours or more with Lactase Drops. At this point, there is little to no lactose present in the milk and boiling, heating or otherwise cooking is absolutely fine.

Many people cook with milk prepared with Lactase Drops and make their own ice cream!

Q. If 5 drops only reduce lactose 70%, how many drops to reduce lactose 100%?
The longer you wait, the more lactase will be reduced.

Independent lab testing confirms that:
- 89% of lactose was broken down by Lactase Drops after 36 hours.
- 96.2% of lactose was broken down by Lactase Drops after 48 hours.

You can also add more Lactase Drops if you want to break down the lactose faster.

Liquid lactase enzyme supplements are very popular in Europe and Canada. They are gaining popularity in the United States, but are difficult to find. If liquid lactase supplements are available in your local store, make sure you read the label to chekc for potency as they can be quite ineffective if there isn't enough lactase enzyme per drop.

The benefit to liquid lactase supplements are they are easy to add to milk, taste good and are more cost effective than tablets or capsules.  Simply open the bottle and drop the liquid into the milk carton or any liquid lactose-containing product and shake. One may also place the drops of lactase in 3 ounces of water or juice, directly on the food, in the milk or on the tongue just prior to, during or just after eating ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese or any product containing lactose. This method is good for those who experience mild lactose intolerance or if they inadvertently ingested lactose and need to prevent lactose intolerance symptoms immediately.

Suggested Use
Suggested Dosing of Lactase Drops to digest 70% of lactose after 24 hours of refrigeration:

  • Add 5 drops of Lactase Drops per pint or per liter of milk (depends on your level of lactose intolerance),
  • Add 1 to 2 dropperfuls of Lactase Drops per gallon of milk,
  • Reduced fat milk contains more lactose than raw milk so one may add less Lactase Drops to whole milk or raw milk.

To use fewer Lactase Drops per pint or per gallon, allow up to 30 hrs before consumption occurs. There is no benefit to wait longer than 30 hours as the lactase enzyme already consumed all the lactose it can.

Experiment with the number of drops. The recommended amount of 5 drops is enough to digest 70% of the lactose in one pint of milk after 24 hours. Some people may need less and some need more. We are currently undergoing testing to see if we can digest 70% of lactose in 1 liter of milk.

To consume other lactose-containing products, mix the necessary amount of Lactase Drops in 3 ounces of water or juice prior to eating, or as recommended by a health professional.

One may add the necessary amount of Lactase Drops directly to milk, whey protein concentrate, cottage cheese, half and half, cream, ice cream, cheese, breast milk, sour cream and kefir.

Breast milk: Add 1 drop per 100 mL of breast milk and after 12 hours, most of the lactose will be gone. Again, each individual is different. One infant may need more and another infant less.

If symptoms of diarrhea, gas and bloating remain after increasing the amount of Lactase Drops, consult your physician.

Refrigeration is not needed after opening, but the shelf life of Lactase Drops will be increased by 6 months if refrigerated.

Question: Increasing the Amount of Lactase Drops for Larger Amounts of Dairy
Answer:

Q: I'd like to know if I could increase the number of Lactase Drops by Seeking Health to a larger amount of milk, i.e. 20 drops for 1 gallon milk, for the same effect?

A: You may increase the amount of Liquid Lactase added to larger amounts of milk - no problem.

There are 8 pints in 1 gallon of milk. For 1 gallon of milk, you will need 40 drops. The typical ratio is to add 5 drops of Liquid Lactase to one pint (568 ml.) of milk and refrigerate for 24 hours.

If you still have symptoms of gas, allow the lactase enzyme to process the milk for another 24 hours. This will significantly reduce the amount of lactose in the milk. You may also add Lactase Drops to any dairy product that has lactose in it.

Alternatively, the Liquid Lactase can be taken directly in water or juice prior to consumption of dairy products or as professionally directed.

Question: Treating Lactose Intolerance: Three Treatment Options
Answer:

Suffer from lactose intolerance and want it gone?

You are not alone.

There are three treatment options for treating lactose intolerance:

  1. Avoid lactose-containing foods, supplements, baked goods and medicines
  2. Short-term solution to treating lactose intolerance is taking lactase enzymes
  3. Long-term solution to treating lactose intolerance is taking specific probiotics

Lactose Intolerance affects nearly 25% of the US population or 1 in 9 people.1

Knowing how the lactase enzyme operates and how it is produced is the key to effectively treating lactose intolerance.

At birth, we have high levels of the lactase enzyme produced by cells located in the small intestine. However, as we age, these cells produce less and less lactase enzyme.

As lactase enzyme levels drop due to decreased production, symptoms of lactose intolerance appear and increase in severity over time.

Symptoms of lactose intolerance occur after eating anything which contains lactose.

Lactose-containing foods is not limited to dairy products such as milk, cheese, cottage cheese, kefir, sour cream or butter. Lactose is found in pharmaceutical drugs and supplements as a filler or in compressed tablets, processed meats like hot dogs and sausages, whey protein concentrates, breakfast cereals, chips or processed foods in general. Read labels well.

Symptoms of lactose intolerance are mainly digestive and consist of:

  • gas
  • bloating
  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • headache

Once cells in the small intestine stop or reduce production of the lactase enzyme, there are three options to effectively treat lactose intolerance:

  1. Completely avoid lactose containing products for the rest of your life in order to avoid symptoms of lactose intolerance. To me, this is not addressing the root problem, it is simply avoiding it. (Some cases of suspected lactose intolerance require full avoidance and I will go over them soon.)
  2. Take a supplement containing the lactase enzyme prior to eating anything containing dairy. Lactase supplements are great for short term treatment of lactose intolerance.
  3. Ingest specific probiotics which produce lactase enzyme. Probiotics are the long term treatment for lactose intolerance.

Avoiding dairy products the rest of your life if you enjoy them is not ideal; thus, Option 1 is not an option as a treatment for lactose intolerance for most people.

The fastest way to begin enjoying dairy products without any symptoms of lactose intolerance is to take a lactase enzyme supplement.

I'll guide you through the various lactase enzyme supplement options and in the end, you will have a clear idea which form of lactase enzyme supplement is best for you.

The problem with lactase enzyme supplements is they range all over the board in terms of effectiveness, delivery type, purity and potency.

Some upfront issues that I have seen in the lactase enzyme supplement industry:

  1. Ingredients containing food coloring, preservatives, and chemicals that I have never seen on other labels.
  2. Too little amount of lactase enzyme thereby being ineffective at short-term treatment of lactose intolerance.
  3. Way too much of the lactase enzyme thereby flooding the digestive system with an unnecessary amount of a digestive enzyme. Excess and unused enzymes interact with other enzymes released by the pancreas, small intestine and the liver. Enzymes are pH driven and temperature driven. If one enzyme is in too high amounts, it can interrupt pH and the release of other digestive enzymes causing improper digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
  4. False label claims stating that the product contains X amount of lactase enzyme when there was no laboratory test done at all to confirm this. I have personally contacted some major lactase enzyme supplement manufacturers and they fail to provide proof of their label claim.
Here are the four forms of lactase enzyme supplements:

Powdered lactase enzyme supplements are great for people who do not enjoy swallowing pills and consume dairy products at home. Simply open the bottle, measure how much you need, drop it into the milk container, shake and wait 24 hours to drink. Powdered lactase enzyme supplements are cost-effective as they are added directly to liquid lactose-containing products. With a gallon of milk, you simply add a scoop of the lactase enzyme powder once. On the other hand, taking a capsule of lactase enzyme each time you drink a glass of milk or eat a cake made with milk gets expensive and annoying. The problems with powdered lactase supplements are that they can be messy and clump when adding to milk causing inadequate breakdown of lactose. There are also fillers added to lactose enzyme powders which may not be suitable for some individuals. A common filler is maltodextrin which is derived from corn or wheat. Taking a powdered lactase enzyme supplement before each meal containing dairy is not ideal.

Tablets and capsules containing lactase enzyme are convenient to take orally before ingesting dairy.  Capsules and tablets are also handy while on the go. The biggest problem with taking lactase enzymes orally is the lactase enzyme gets destroyed in the stomach acid. This makes taking the lactase enzyme supplement pretty worthless as a short-term treatment for lactose intolerance. Lactase enzyme tablets or capsules also cannot be added to liquid lactose-containing products such as milk. This means you have to swallow a capsule or pill of the lactase enzyme each time you drink a cup of milk. This can get expensive due to the numerous times milk is used in a day. Capsules and tablet forms of lactase enzymes also contain more flow agents, preservatives, colorings, and additives compared to powered or liquid lactase supplements. Tablets and capsules are also harder to control how much lactase enzyme you take - it is either 1 capsule or 2. With a powder or liquid, you control how much lactase enzyme you take thereby saving money and not interrupting other enzymatic processes due to excessive lactase enzyme.

Liquid lactase enzyme supplements are very popular in Europe and Canada. They are gaining popularity in the United States but are difficult to find. If liquid lactase supplements are found in your local store, make sure you read the potency as they can be quite ineffective at lower drops per serving. The benefit to liquid lactase supplements are they are easy to add to milk, taste good and inexpensive when comparing per dose cost.  Simply open the bottle and drop the liquid into the milk carton or any liquid lactose-containing product and shake.

Due to popular demand and a glaring need to have an effective liquid lactase in the United States, I developed a liquid lactase supplement, called Lactase Drops, that is:

  • potent 7 drops containing 1960 lactase units which is enough to reduce lactose by 70% in 1 pint of milk over 24 hours,
  • laboratory tested for effectiveness,
  • laboratory tested for molds, yeasts, fungi and bacteria
  • free of preservatives, flow agents and fillers.
  • has 94 servings per container,
  • treats 94 pints of milk,
  • free of soy, wheat, corn, casein, gluten
  • stored in a glass bottle with a glass dropper. BPA free and pthalate free.
  • easy to use: simply drop 7 drops into a liter of any type of milk, wait 24 hours and then drink. This method allows the liquid lactase supplement to digest most of the lactose.
  • one may place the drops of lactase in 3 ounces of water or juice, directly on the food, in the milk or on the tongue just prior to, during or just after eating ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese or any product containing lactose. This method is good for those who experience mild lactose intolerance or if they inadvertently ingested lactose and need to prevent lactose intolerance immediately.
  • easy to administer to children as the liquid lactase tastes quite sweet because it is in a base of glycerin.
  • safe to use in breastmilk or formula (once mixed) and administer to infants.

Let's move on to addressing how you can treat lactose intolerance long term.

Treating lactose intolerance long term requires producing the lactase enzyme internally.

What?! Yes - it is possible.

As discussed earlier, when we are born, we produce lactase enzyme ourselves in high amounts and the ability to produce lactase declines as we age.

There is a way around this that is not often brought to people's attention.

Why? Likely because the lactase enzyme industry wants to keep it quiet. If everyone knew there was a long term solution to lactose intolerance, they would be all over it, as making your own lactase is the most cost-effective and proven method to treat lactose intolerance.

There are strains of bacteria which occur naturally in our digestive system that create the lactase enzyme.

However, they are not in high enough numbers so the amount of lactase enzyme they make is insignificant. They also get killed by antibiotics, stress, poor dietary choices, and harmful bacteria.

The lactase-producing bacteria can be replenished by taking specific probiotic strains in high amounts.

The probiotic strains I recommend are in the probiotic I developed, of course right? There are reasons for it and I will explain.

For those who just want to know what I recommend for long-term treatment of lactose intolerance - I recommend ProBiota 12 capsules.

The way to treat lactose intolerance long-term and properly is to:

  • Avoid lactose containing products for 1 month as this rests your digestive system allowing it to reset.
  • Take 2 capsules of ProBiota 12 at dinner time for 1 month.
  • Then take 1 capsule of ProBiota 12 at dinner time continuously.
  • I recommend using Lactase Drops in conjunction with ProBiota 12 for the first month to assist your digestion and not overwhelm it with lactose-containing foods.
  • Over a period of one to three months, taper the amount of Lactase Drops you use and continue taking ProBiota 12 capsules as suggested above
  • In time, approximately 3 months (I say approximately as everyone is unique), you should be able to tolerate lactose-containing products simply by taking a daily capsule of ProBiota 12 at dinner time.
  • There are numerous benefits to ProBiota 12 capsules beyond treating lactose intolerance:
    • improved digestion of foods overall
    • improved local gut immunity
    • decreased food intolerances and food allergies
    • candida and yeast diminished significantly
    • healthy bowel movements
    • improved breath
    • improved skin

If one ingests billions, not millions but billions, of these lactase-producing beneficial bacteria, then symptoms of lactose intolerance disappear.

However, there must be a balance of other beneficial bacteria and not just lactase-producing bacteria. Any one bacteria, even if beneficial, is no longer beneficial if it over-populates the small intestine. In order to prevent over-population and maintain lactase-producing bacteria, a probiotic formula must consist of multiple specials of bacteria. Multiple species of bacteria, taken in high amounts, keep each other in balance and prevent any one strain of bacteria from over-populating and causing undesired effects.

I did not think this was an important point until I worked with a boy with Autism.

I ordered a blood test and found he was very high in lactic acid. The boy was high in lactic acid as his father was giving his Autistic son high potency lactobacillus bacteria. My medical training and a good deal of research both suggest that giving children with autism probiotics is beneficial; however, the research failed to state that probiotics are beneficial when they contain multiple strains.

I instructed the father to no longer provide lactobacillus to his son and instead prescribed Saccharomyces boulardii, which is a beneficial yeast. The boys lactic acid levels dropped significantly. Once the boys lactic acid levels return to normal, he will be put on ProBiota 12.

A word of caution about probiotics: There are numerous probiotics available claiming effectiveness and high potency. The problem is the potency and purity are not laboratory tested after manufacturing or pasteurization. Thus, after the probiotic sits on store shelves or is transported improperly, the purity and effectiveness no longer exists.

A quality probiotic should have these features in order to be effective:

  • contain a prebiotic which is necessary for probiotics to develop and reproduce
  • have protection against stomach acid so they are not destroyed upon swallowing
  • have enough strains to balance each other out so there is not any one dominant strain causing symptoms
  • have billions and billions of beneficial bacteria so they can effectively implant themselves on the intestinal walls and compete against harmful bacteria.
  • be laboratory tested to see if harmful strains have 'polluted' the supplement

ProBiota 12 has all these features.

In closing, I have to bring up a very important and essential point.

If treating lactose intolerance does not improve symptoms of diarrhea, constipation, headache, nausea, then you may not have lactose intolerance.

Instead, you may have a dairy intolerance. It may be necessary to completely avoid dairy products.

Common symptoms of intolerance or allergy to dairy are:3

  • chronic or recurring ear problems, especially in children
  • wheezing
  • eczema
  • constipation
  • headaches
  • restless legs
  • muscle aches
  • 'growing pains'
  • coughing
  • fatigue
  • depression
  • stiff joints
  • inability to think clearly
  • irritability immediately or within 2 hours of eating dairy products
  • bed-wetting
  • throat sounds
  • chronic sinusitis or clear discharge from the nose
  • post-nasal drip
  • chronic sinus congestion
  • absolute love or addiction to every dairy product

If any of these symptoms are present, it is recommended to avoid all dairy products for at least 5 days but 2 weeks is ideal. Complete avoidance is essential. At the end of the two week period, eat a dairy product with each meal for the day. Keep note of symptoms which appear. If symptoms are present after the first meal containing dairy, there is no need to continue ingesting dairy, nor is it recommended.

If symptoms do appear after eliminating dairy, then avoid dairy products for 6 months. After 6 months, another attempt may be taken. If no symptoms appear after eating dairy products, then you are not as sensitive to dairy as you used to be. Eating dairy is OK to begin again but only every 4 days. If dairy products are eaten more frequently than in one meal every 4 days, symptoms will occur once again and complete avoidance for 6 months will be the only way to reduce symptoms.  Make sure to keep track when it is OK to eat dairy or have a day of the week where it is OK to eat dairy - such as Sunday or Tuesday.

For those needing assistance with Food Rotation and eliminating dairy, I highly recommend Dr Sally Rockwell. She has some great resources to help people easily rotate foods.

With the above dietary modifications and supplement recommendations, I am confident your lactose intolerance will improve significantly or disappear altogether.

Should you have further questions or comments about Lactose Intolerance, please post them here.

Do let me know how you are doing in a few weeks after trying the suggestions and products above. I love feedback and it helps others know that natural medicine works!

Question: How many drops to remove lactose from 1 gallon of milk?
Answer:

Q. How many drops of Lactase Drops do you need to neutralize 1 gallon of milk at 100%?

A. It takes 7 drops to remove 70% of lactose from 1 pint in 24 hours.

There are 8 pints in a gallon. That means 56 drops will treat 1 gallon of milk at 70% in 24 hours.

Thus, it will take about 70 drops of Lactase Drops to remove 80% to 100% of the lactose from one gallon of milk in 24 hours or you can use less Lactase Drops and wait longer.

If you have two gallons of milk, you may add much less Lactase Drops to the second gallon of milk compared to the gallon of milk in use and wait longer to use it.

Lactase is an active living enzyme which means there exists some variability in its actions. The variability comes from the temperature of the refrigerator and time.

Enzymes work faster in warmer temperatures. Ensure that your refrigerator operates at or above 4 degrees Celsius or 39 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the minimum effective temperature of the Lactase Drops. The effective upper temperature Lactase Drops is up to 131 degrees Fahrenheit or 55 degrees Celsius.

The second variable of lactase is time. If one waits up to 48 hours, more lactose will be digested by the lactase.

For many individuals, it is not necessary to have all lactose removed by Lactase Drops prior to ingestion. This is because our bodies still make some lactase enzyme via beneficial bacteria that reside in our digestive tract. A reduction of 70% lactose prior to ingestion is typically more than sufficient for most people; however, for those sensitive to lactose, being careful and adding more Lactase Drops is recommended.

If you'd like to treat lactose intolerance long-term and not have to use as much Lactase Drops, I highly recommend you take 2 capsules of ProBiota 12 capsules with dinner. Do this until the first bottle is gone and then reduce to only 1 capsule of ProBiota 12 at dinner time as a maintenance dose.

The reason I recommend ProBiota 12 is because it contains a significant portion of the beneficial bacteria which digest lactose. If you build up these beneficial lactose-digestive bacteria found in ProBiota 12, then over time, you will need less and less Lactase Drops.

In summary, to reduce lactose to 100% in 1 gallon of milk:

  1. Add ~ 70 drops of Lactase Drops to 1 gallon of milk and wait 24 hours
  2. Add less Lactase Drops, ~ 50 drops, and wait 36 hours. This is an estimate.
  3. All less Lactase Drops to the 1 gallon of milk and take ProBiota 12 capsules.
  4. After 1 bottle of ProBiota 12 capsules has been taken over time, then the dose of Lactase Drops can be significantly reduced if the maintenance dose of 1 capsule of ProBiota 12 is taken.

Experiment with dosing Lactase Drops. Try the recommended dose of 56 drops in 1 gallon at 70% lactose-free in one gallon of milk. See how you feel. If you experience symptoms of lactose intolerance, immediately take 7 to 15 drops of Lactase Drops orally by mouth to resolve symptoms.

Overall, aim to take the least amount possible as this is more economical and it is always recommended to take less of a supplement if it is not required.

A. Hello -

It is not necessary to return the Pharmax Liquid Lactase. It was an effective product and is no longer available. If you would like to return the Liquid Lactase by Pharmax, please contact Jatone at 1-800-689-8221 or via email.

The Lactase Drops are twice as potent as the Liquid Lactase by Pharmax so you can use less drops. You should have to use only 20 drops of Lactase Drops per gallon to get the same effect as Pharmax Liquid Lactase.

What I find interesting though is we tested the Lactase Drops for effectiveness and found that at 7 drops we are able to digest 70% of the lactose in skim milk at 5 degrees Celsius.

I do not have lab test results for Pharmax Liquid Lactase although the label claim was 5 drops to digest 70% of lactose in one pint of milk. I am not sure how they arrived at that number.

This is the statement received from the manufacturing facility of Lactase Drops:

"The Lactase Drops activity is 6160 Units/g. We determined this concentration from different results.  The Lactase assay and lactose activity results demonstrate that our product has a maximum efficiency at this concentration. For Pharmax Lactase enzyme 5 drops servings (205 µl) provides 615 LAU lactase units so 3000 units/g.  So we have a concentration in the Lactase Drops 2:1 more than Pharmax"

The Lactase Drops by Seeking Health can be stored at room temperature and is recommended unless you intend to not use it for a long time. If you intend to not use it, store Lactase Drops in the refrigerator.

Should you have comments or additional questions, please post your comment here.

Answer:

Tired of taking pills every time you want to drink milk or eat something with dairy in it?

Tired of diarrhea, nausea and headaches associated with lactose intolerance?

Not only is this expensive, but it is a hassle. Also if you forget to take the lactase enzyme before a meal, you have to deal with the consequences of diarrhea, headaches and nausea. Not fun.

There are two solutions for treating lactose intolerance

  1. Short term fast acting and
  2. Long term slower acting.

It is not possible to obtain the long term solution of lactose intolerance without having to stop dairy for a month unless the short term solution is utilized in conjunction.

Do you want to avoid dairy for one month?

I didn't think so.

Here is how to effectively treat lactose intolerance long term without having to stop enjoying products which contain dairy:

Step 1. Get Lactase Drops and add to milk or any dairy product as explained on the product page. The Lactase Drops digest the lactose for you in any product containing dairy. This is required as you build up Step 2.

Step 2. Obtain ProBiota 12 capsules and take 2 at dinner time for one month. Then taper down to 1 capsule at dinner time as a maintenance dose.

The reason why ProBiota 12 works is that it contains very high amounts of beneficial bacteria. Certain strains of bacteria found in ProBiota 12 breakdown lactose for you. The excellent part of this is that the beneficial bacteria that you take in ProBiota 12 remain in your digestive tract long term.

It is like having your own lactase-producing enzymes constantly being produced without having to take a lactase enzyme pill or liquid again.

Step 3. After a couple weeks of taking ProBiota 12, you may begin to ease off on how many drops of Lactase Drops you use. Lower and lower your dose of Lactase Drops until eventually you will not need them anymore.

Step 4. Continue taking ProBiota 12 - 1 capsule at dinnertime - in order to maintain healthy digestive bacteria. You may stop taking ProBiota 12 once no signs of lactose intolerance exist.

If you find yourself going to an immensely heavy dairy-containing meal, I recommend supporting the digestive bacteria with Lactase Drops. Standard meals containing dairy, you will be fine, and not need Lactase Drops after having taken ProBiota 12 for a month; however, if you know you are going to load up heavily on dairy, I recommend helping out a bit with Lactase Drops.

Step 5. If symptoms of lactose intolerance return for some reason, such as having taken antibiotics, repeat the process over.

If you end up taking antibiotics, make sure you take ProBiota 12 at night 2 hours after your last dose of antibiotics. This helps reduce the chances of getting clostridium difficile, enhances the effectiveness of the antibiotic as your local digestive immune system remains strong and also helps prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea.

Many antibiotics kill off most, if not all, digestive bacteria. This means that after taking antibiotics, the beneficial bacteria which used to digest the lactose for you are no longer living. In order to restore the healthy, beneficial bacteria, take ProBiota 12 at dinnertime.

That's all there is to treating lactose intolerance long term.

Become a HealthE Member! Save 10% Every Day Question: Reducing Lactase Drops With A Longer Wait Time
Answer:

Q: The recommended dosage for the Lactase Drops by Seeking Health is to add 5 drops to a pint of milk and wait 24-48 hours for the enzymes to work their magic. If I plan on waiting longer, say 3-4 days, can I reduce the amount of drops to my pint of milk? If so, how many drops can I reduce it to? Thank you!

A: That is a good and interesting question.

Liquid Lactase contains an enzyme in a set amount per serving.

There is only so much lactose the lactase enzymes can digest. The manufacturer recommends that 5 drops be added per pint of dairy product. This is not just time dependent, it is also dose dependent.

The lactase enzyme does not replicate itself without proper conditions.

Thus, one cannot add less of the enzyme and wait longer to get a desired effect.

That said though, you still may experiment with waiting longer and adding less of the enzyme. If you begin to have gas, diarrhea or bloating, you know you have to add more enzyme.

The price per serving is quite good with the Lactase Drops, especially when you compare it to name brand lactose-free dairy products.

Should you have further questions, please do ask.

Question: Can I use Lactase Drops for my Child?
Answer:

Q:  I am looking for a Lactase enzyme for my child, she is 7 weeks old. Her doctor in Poland prescribed Lactaid. I would much rather use Lactase Drops if the effects are the same.  Is it appropriate for a child of that age? The baby is breast fed. Also, if you do recommend Lactase Drops, what are the instructions? Thank you in advance!

A: In my opinion, it is not appropriate for a breastfed baby to need a digestive enzyme for milk.

Why is your doctor suggesting the use of Lactaid? What symptoms are your baby showing?

What you may use that will be more useful is HLC Neonate Powder by Pharmax.

HLC Neonate contains bacteria which is beneficial to digest mother's milk and also provide necessary digestive, healthy bacteria for your baby.

Tip 1/16 of a teaspoon of powder out of bottle three times daily. The powder can be suckled by the infant from a clean finger or added to expressed milk.

I believe you will be impressed with the results.

If you are having issues with Colic or Teething then consider Colic Tablets by Hylands or Teething Tablets by Hylands.

Should you have further questions, please do ask.

Question: Are Lactase Drops safe for infants?
Answer:

Q: Hi I have a 16 month old and need an alternative to lactaid milk for travel.  Is your product safe for her age? Does it have to sit 24 hours? We have to go to India, and I don't want her to have to take regular milk for any period of time. We also have a long plane flight.

A: The Lactase Drops are safe for infants and up.

Many are getting results by taking it immediately as well. I would experiment and see how it goes by giving her Lactase Drops directly in her mouth prior to having dairy. That should be fine.
We are all different so it may not be for her, but it has worked for other customers.

Lactase Drops do not have to sit for 24 hours if given directly by mouth.  The 24 hour period is recommended for treating milk with lactase to ensure that the lactose is completely digested.

I do highly recommend the use of ProBiota Infant especially if you are traveling. Her immune system will be much stronger and she will be able to digest foods much better. The ProBiota Infant also has some bacteria which digest lactose.

So a long term ability to digest lactose will start to develop in her digestive system while you are giving her Lactase Drops as a short term solution to lactose intolerance.

I also highly recommend the use of Vitamin D360 which is a liquid vitamin D3 in a base of olive oil. Very pure with a neutral taste. Give her 1,000 IU per 25 pounds of body weight per day. If she is 25 pounds, give her 1 drop of Vitamin D360 every two days. That is 1 DROP, not dropperful.  This formula is very potent.

I also highly recommend you take Vitamin D360 as well to boost your immune system while traveling. Research shows those with sufficient vitamin D3 have less risk of catching colds or flus.

If you experience digestive upset while in India, ProBiota 12 Powder is highly recommended to take as a preventative.

Should you experience traveler's diarrhea while in India, consider taking Herbal Melange or ParaBiotic Plus. Either one is effective however, the Herbal Melange is safe for your young daughter. I do not recommend ParaBiotic Plus for anyone younger than 4 years old.

That is more than you asked for but I like to be complete ;) and I have experienced digestive upset while in India.  Most travelers from the West do.

Should you have further questions, please do ask.

Great Product
It is almost impossible to find lactose free fresh milk here in Singapore. Even the UHT version is only available in certain supermarkets and let's not even begin to talk about the cost of lactose free milk.

This product is a life saver. Now, I am able to enjoy cereal with milk and have a caffe latte every morning. I've never been able to do so since I was a kid without running to the toilet immediately after.

This product really works!

I did my own analysis of regular milk plus the lactose drops vs Lactaid and it looks like I will save over $200 per year (as long as they don't raise the price!!!!)

great product
I recently ordered these drops because there are so many dairy products that I like to use for cooking but are not sold as lactose free. I buy organic milk and just add the drops. It works great. I also use it to make my own ice cream.

Best Value and a Great Product
Very please with this product and appreciate the efforts your company went through to develope it after the original was no longer available. These drops are very hard to find, and in our area can only be perchased online. They work fantastically for our grandson. He has no side effects and can drink milk and eat all dairy products without any of the horrific lactose related health issues. Your website is very easy, secure and convenient to use. We had tried the easily accessable products such as Lactaid milk, it was very expensive and it did not break down the milk enough to keep our grandson from his lactose intolerant symptoms, one of which is an extremely painful diaper rash that no diaper rash treatment will even give the smallest amount of relief from, it has to be cleared up with prescription steriods. These drops keep that from happening!!! And since he was only one year old when we had to change him from his soy formula, using the tablets was not a workable option either. We did try soy milk, and once again the cost was rediculous with milk still being his primary food source at that age, and it still didn't eliminate all of the problems. My daughter and I can't say enough about how happy we are with this product. My grandson's over all health and attitude improved with continued use. No more tummy aches and no more painful rash!

Lactase Drops let me enjoy health benifits of Goats milk
I have multiple Auto immune issues. Thus I have a very high imflammation rate. I did quite a bit of reading and found out that Goats milk has highly antiflammatory qualities. I even brought my own goats!! I was fine for a while but notice I was lactose intolerant to the goats milk. So I found your drops and now I can drink my Goats milk and feel better.

Great product
I used to take pills but they were hit and miss. After trying Lactase drops I am a sold on this product. I love that I can drink milk once again. I no longer have to use soy milk to enjoy cereal in the morning. I only wish it came in a larger bottle. Thank you for Lactase.

Really works and saves $$
I wanted to wait a few months of testing before adding a review to make sure it works - it does - using a medicine dropper (complimentary from local pharmacy) I add 2 ml per gallon of milk. I need mine 99%+ lactose-free so I let it sit for 5 days - no problems. I also treat cream to make lactose-free ice cream. Costs so much less than buying the pretreated milk at the grocery.

Outstanding Success!
I have suffered with severe daily intolerance for 20 years. It only takes a trace of dairy product to make me instantly very ill. I have to take 2 droppers full of Lactase Drops to protect myself from the ill effects of eating dairy products. The results have been amazing! The product I took before was in a tablet form and had become ineffective. So I am most grateful for your fine product.

Amazing product
We used to buy organic lactose free milk but the prices keep going up and the milk comes from halfway across the country. Now, we can make our own from locally produced organic milk for much less and be more environmentally sensitive in the bargain. Thanks for offering a great product.

This really works !!
I just discovered these drops . . and I am thrilled !! My morning routine starts with 2 shots of espresso with 1/2 and 1/2 . . . without this I won't get up in the morning. But of course the 1/2 and 1/2 caused me to have massive intestinal upset all day. I put 10 drops into a quart of 1/2 and 1/2 and not even 24 hours later I added it to my coffee and had no problems whatsoever. I encouraged 2 other lactose intolerant people to try it too, and they reported no intestinal problems. The next test is to get my son, who is way more sensitive than I, to try the regular (i.e. not Lactaid) milk that I have added drops to. So far so good - - I love this product.

Welcome back to my life dairy!
These drops work very well. I've tried lactose pills in the past and they were not very effective. I have been putting drops in a gallon milk container, or putting some drops in a cup of water prior to consuming dairy products and I've had no negative effects.

Other family members are also severely lactose intolerant and have been able to consume all dairy products with the help of these drops.

I have been using Lactase drops in my buttermilk that I love.

Before getting Lactase Drops Icould not drink my favorite milk from years ago. I now have my young life back - I was about 35 years old when I

    • I want to place an order for the Lactase Drops, but the size of the order will be determined by the shelf life in a refrigerator at 40 degrees (F) and the consumption of milk will be 1.5 gallons every 7 days. Your best price appears to be 6 bottles, but will the cultures last, considering the consumption and storage temperature I provided.
    • Lactase Drops expires June 2012. You have lots of time! Don't forget you can also use Lactase Drops when you eat cheese, ice cream, yogurt, cottage cheese, whipping cream or any dairy product. Lactase Drops does not have to be added to dairy and let sit for 12 hours in order to use. • Immediate use?? at 10/7/11 10:58 PM
    • Use of the drops in the normal way -- to convert refrigerated milk -- is as expected.

But I'm confused by the alternative method described of taking the liquid (mixed in some water/juice) immediately with other foods.

My understanding is that drops that will work to convert milk in the refrigerator will be broken down by stomach acid if you try to take them immediately and be useless.

And vice versa, that for some reason you can't just crush typical immediate-use lactase pills and put them in milk to convert it in the refrigerator.
    • If you eat some food with Lactase Drops, the pH of the stomach goes up from its usual pH of 1 to 3. Dairy products are quite thick and protective so taking Lactase Drops at the time of eating should be ok. You will know by experiencing zero symptoms of lactose intolerance. Lactase pills are covered with 'fatty' substances such as magnesium stearates which make them not mix well in liquid. That said, they will not effectively convert lactose into digestible sugars. I have not heard of people having issues taking Lactase Drops immediately during meals instead of letting them soak for 12 to 24 hours. In fact, we have video testimonials of people using Lactase Drops at the time of eating dairy and experiencing great results: http://www.youtube.com/user/SeekingHealthTV Do post your feedback how they work for you when taken directly. • I have a two year old that loves dairy products. If he were to eat something that is dairy or or has diary in it and I want to give him the drops orally, does he need to take five drops or less? I know his portion sizes are small soI didn't want to give him more than he would need. So far I have been giving him 5 drops whenever he has something containing dairy and the results have been wonderful, but I'm wondering if I'm giving him more drops than he needs.
    • Hello - Great question. I am glad to hear you are experiencing great results. I agree though - it is best to optimize the amount used as much as possible. In short, yes - you may likely use less Lactase Drops than you are now. It is useful to know how much lactose is in certain foods as well - review this informative page: http://uvahealth.com/services/digestive-health-1/images-and-docs/lactosecontent.pdf Cheese has very little lactose while dry powdered milk has the most. In time, you will know how much you have to give him. Remember also that you can give probiotics to help restore the beneficial bacteria which breakdown lactose. As the probiotics take hold and increase in population in his digestive system, you likely can use less Lactase Drops as well. If your child is 3 or above, consider giving him 1 capsule of ProBiota 12 after dinner each evening. The beneficial bacteria in ProBiota 12 assist in the breakdown of lactose, support a healthy immune system, help bind toxins and assist in maintaining healthy bowel movements. http://www.healthegoods.com/probiota-12-maximum-support-50-billion-cfus-twelve-species-probiotic-60-vegetarian-capsules-seeking-health.html If he cannot swallow pills very well, consider giving him 1/16th to 1/8th of a teaspoon ProBiota 12 Powder each evening after dinner. http://www.healthegoods.com/pro-biota-12-powder-maximum-support-200-billion-cfus-twelve-species-60-grams-seeking-health.html If your child is under 3 yrs old or breastfeeding still, consider using ProBiota Infant. • Dear healthegoods,

Hi there, I would like to know if this type of lactase enzyme (firmentation) can be used in slouphing off dead skin on the face?

If this is just for milk intolerance to digest, would you know if I can use this to make my own facial enzyme with this and what other ingredients I would need? thanks
    • Hello there - I have not heard of using Lactase Drops for skin. You may give it a shot and let me know how it works fro you ;) It is intended to digest lactose sugars and is in a base of glycerin so it may not be the best choice for making your own facial enzyme though - due to the glycerin sugar. I would rather you try something like the Heviz Moor Mud Mask as it is very effective for improving the skin. http://www.healthegoods.com/moor-mud-mask-100-ml-torf.html If you want a comprehensive enzyme blend, consider Pro-Digestion: http://www.healthegoods.com/pro-digestion-120-vegetarian-capsules-1.html or Pro-Digestion Intensive: http://www.healthegoods.com/pro-digestion-intensive-120-vegetarian-capsules.html If you use these, mix in a base of olive oil or coconut oil - or perhaps even just water. • How Much To Use at 1/27/12 10:19 AM
    • Hello Dr. Ben,

How many drops of Lactase should be used for 6 oz. servings for an infant? This is added to breast milk that has been frozen in 6 oz. containers.
    • Hello - Try 2 drops per 6 oz. Suggested amount is 4 drops per pint which is about 16 oz. Keep in mind that the lactase enzyme works faster in higher temperatures - just don't exceed 90 degrees or so as the enzyme denatures about 110 degrees or so. You may safely use more if you see a need. I highly recommend the use of ProBiota Infant for your little one. Use 1/4 teaspoon after breast feeding or bottle feeding at night. There are numerous reasons for the use of probiotics in infants - 1) reduce lactose intolerance 2) improve immune function 3) improve digestive function 4) reduce susceptibility to overgrowth of yeast/bacteria 5) reduce incidence of dermatitis 6) reduce absorption of BPA and other toxins and heavy metals You may find ProBiota Infant here: http://www.healthegoods.com/pro-biota-infant-powder-60-grams-seeking-health.html Best Dr Ben
