Health Questions? Answered
Over the last few weeks, I have responded to numerous health questions.
In fact, health questions have increased to such an extent that I set up: "Chat with Dr Ben."
- When: From 10 AM to Noon Pacific Standard Time: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
- How: I will be online to respond to your health questions via our new Live Help Chat feature.
- What: Bring your health questions. Wide open.
- Cost: This service is completely free. Please limit each Chat Session to 5-10 minutes.
- Where: Your Computer!
- Why? I have found that many people are totally overwhelmed and buying products on a whim. I'd rather you be more educated and make an appropriate product choice. There are also numerous times that you do not need to buy any product. Your kitchen has a ton of medicine in it and I will refer to it often.
Those times do not work for you? No worries. You may email your health question to: ben@healthegoods.com
Please do understand that I do not diagnose, treat or prescribe online. I will gladly provide health information and tips. A quality physician will never diagnose or treat over long distances.

15% Off Zing Nutritional Bars! Try 'em! You'll be hooked!
Michael Kaplan, ND is the CEO of Zing Bars. He said that this month he is giving me 15% off wholesale on all the flavors.
I immediately thought of you! I have reduced the cost of all the Zing Bar flavors by 15%
Staff Favorite: Blueberry Almond
Zing Lover Favorite: Chocolate Peanut Butter
About Zing Bars:
We're four registered dietitians in private practice, each with master's degrees in nutrition science and over 35 years of combined clinical experience. We created Zing bars after years of being unable to find the ideal nutrition bar to recommend to our patients. We needed a bar that would be satisfying and sustaining. Ingredients needed to be well-balanced and all-natural. And if we actually expected patients to eat this bar, it had to be delicious.
Zing bars are an excellent source of protein, fiber and healthy fats. This combination increases satiety, so when you take your last bite of a Zing bar you feel truly satisfied.
Zing bars are a uniquely delicious, nutritionally balanced, wheat-free and gluten-free snack. All Zing bars are wheat-free. The Chocolate Peanut Butter and Blueberry Almond flavors are wheat-free and gluten-free. The Oatmeal Chocolate Chip flavor does contain gluten but is wheat-free.
Save 15% on Zing Nutritional Bars! You will love 'em! |

Dr Ben's New Fave: Chia Seeds
I never thought I'd be recommending anything to do with the word 'Chia'; however, after learning more about the benefits of Chia Seeds, I became hooked.
Chia seeds are:
- Protein rich
- Calcium rich.
- Fiber rich
- Omega 3 rich
A neighbor of mine is using Chia Seeds to help curb her insatiable appetite. She reports that after eating 1 ounce of Chia Seeds, the next time she wants to eat is 2 hours later. Since she is suffering from an over-eating addiction, this is a huge improvement. I will continue to see how she does by taking the Chia Seeds.
Since Chia Seeds are basically tasteless, you can use them in any recipe, smoothie or just right out of the bag! This is my method. I just take a large spoonful and begin chewing. I've also experimented by adding them to smoothies, peanut butter sandwiches, salads and breakfast cereals.
More Chia Seed information and preparation instructions are available on the Chia Seed product page.

Pearl: Depression and Anxiety?
I have been working with an individual who suffers from anxiety and depression for about a decade.
Of course the traditional medications were attempted - especially Celexa. According to the patient, no improvement was noticed no matter the dose. Counseling and psychiatric evaluations were done and led to only more medications.
As a naturopathic physician, my goal is not to simply toss drugs at a patient but rather find the root cause.
Diet plays a huge role in depression and anxiety. Exercise and proper sleep habits as well.
What is the Pearl? The pearl is this:
- This patient also reports random chest pain. Cardiologists find nothing wrong.
- I order a nutritional profile and find the cardiovascular nutritional status is quite insufficient. CoQ10, Vitamin E and certain fatty acids are extremely low.
- Cardiovascular disease is an issue in the family history.
- When people report they feel 'impending doom', they are likely having some type of heart condition which varies in severity.
Depression and Anxiety does not always stem from being in a unhealthy social environment or lack or serotonin. Depression and Anxiety may also be caused by:
- Lack of Sunlight. Get a LightBox
- Food Intolerances. Certain foods may trigger severe bouts of depression and/or anxiety in people. Do an Elimination Diet to see which foods are the culprits.
- Poor heart health. Get a full physical exam and history evaluated by a naturopathic physician.
- Exposures to chemicals in the environment. This is especially related to natural gas stoves in the home that are poorly ventilated.
- Poor dietary habits. Not eating balanced meals and blood sugar imbalances are occurring.
- and more...
We are working on dietary habits, sleep habits, light box and cardiovascular support. In a matter of weeks, this individual should feel alive once again.
Mind and Body Connection: Explained by Bruce Lipton PhD
I highly recommend a DVD which I watched during one of my required classes in medical school -
The New Biology: Where Mind and Matter Meet
You always hear that your genetics play a role in your health. Well - that's true. But there is a step above that.
The environment plays with your genetics.
Be in control of your environment physically AND Emotionally.
Bruce, a former medical school professor and now Stanford researcher, will open your mind. He does it with wit, humor and science that everyone can understand.
I highly recommend that you watch the 'The New Biology' with your friends and family. Bring the Chia Seeds and Zing Bars with ya! :)
Please forward your newsletter to friends and family. Every ounce of preventative medicine helps!
