In a study with one group taking Ibuprofen (NSAID's) and another group consuming Glucosamine sulfate, the group consuming glucosamine sulfate improved joint mobility and reduced joint pain drastically as compared to the NSAID group.
This holds true as initially NSAIDS provide more immediate joint pain but also contribute indirectly to increased joint degeneration. Joint degeneration increases with NSAIDS as
- less pain leads to more joint use
- NSAIDS inhibit glycosaminoglycans from forming. GAG's are the building blocks for cartilage repair.
- preventing cartiliage formation leads to further degenerative joint disease.
- thus, reduce NSAID intake and increase Glucosamine sulfate and other joint supplementation to prevent further joint degeneration and restore proper joint health and function.
