Question: Will D-Mannose Help with Interstitial Cystitis?
Answer:

Q: I just started taking the Pure D-Mannose for ICS that they think I have. Also, they are inserting DMSO into my bladder once a week. I hate this invasive procedure, what do you advise, should I stop the DMSO and rely on the D-Mannose?

A:
D-mannose is useful for urinary tract infections as it prevents bacteria from adhering to the bladder walls.

I do not think D-mannose will provide much benefit unless your symptoms are related to a bacterial infection.

Interstitial cystitis is not caused by bacterial infections typically.

For interstitial cystitis, other nutrients, herbs and lifestyle changes are recommended.

I have some tips here about Interstitial cystitis:

Attempt to avoid these certain foods while you have symptoms of Interstitial cystitus:
Alcohol, spicy food, chocolate, caffeine, citrus fruits and juices, tomatoes, and carbonated drinks.

I have used Bladder Ease by Vitanica on past patients with great success.

One of our customers left a Bladder Ease review:
"Bladder Ease has cut my visits to the bathroom at night from 7-10 times down to twice nightly"

I also recommend that you consider taking Pharmax Ultra EPA/DHA in order to help combat the inflammation

Applying castor oil on your abdomen above your bladder a couple times a day may provide great relief as well.
Castor oil can be messy so just apply a thin layer and wear an undershirt which you do not care about.
Make sure you apply castor oil above your abdomen before sleep.

Reducing stress and anxiety may help reduce symptoms of Interstitial cystitis as well. Seditol by Pure Encapsulations has unique ingredients to help promote relaxation and restful sleep.

Should you have further questions, please do ask.

In health,
Dr Ben

    • I have been diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis and currently taking "CytaQ" and a probiotic (Ultimate Flora Vaginal Support). Can I take Bladder Ease along with these? CystaQ contains; Quercetin, Bromelain, Papain, Cranberry Fruit, Passion Flower Herb, Valerian Root and Wood Betony Leaf.
    • Hello - You may take Bladder Ease along with the products you are currently taking. Also make sure to eliminate offending foods: - citrus - coffee - spicy foods - wheat I recommend you read this article about Interstitial Cystitis: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1476005/pdf/RIU004001_0S28.pdf I am not sure how potent your probiotic is, but if it is not more than 100 billion, it may not be strong enough to help combat the problem. Consider ProBiota 12 Powder and take 1/4 teaspoon for 1 week and then increase to 1/2 teaspoon until the bottle is gone. 1/4 teaspoon = 100 billion and 1/2 teaspoon = 200 billion. http://www.healthegoods.com/pro-biota-12-powder-maximum-support-200-billion-cfus-twelve-species-60-grams-seeking-health.html Always take probiotics after dinner. Also, low vitamin D3 is often associated with Interstitial cystitis. Consider taking 3 drops of Liquid Vitamin D360 which provides 6,000 IU (2,000 IU per Drop) http://www.healthegoods.com/liquid-vitamin-d360-1-oz.html Retest your vitamin D3 blood levels with your doctor after 2 to 3 months and then adjust as they recommend.
