Question: Does Amla Plex by Ayush Herbs help for Digestive Discomfort?
Answer:

Q: I was told that Amla Plex by Ayush Herbs could help for stomach pain, bloating, and general digestive discomfort.

I already eat gluten-free, only pastured meats, raw dairy, no sweeteners, heavy veggie, properly soaked nuts, etc.  So I feel like I just need more help because a food based treatment isn't working.

I was wondering if this could help. I noticed it had dehydrated cane sugar. I tend to avoid all sweeteners and don't tolerate sugars well. Do you think I should avoid this product because of that? I am grateful for any assistance.

Thanks for your site and articles. Great material on here!

A: Thank you, glad to hear you enjoy the read. I hope you are gaining some useful information from them!

Stomach pain, bloating and general digestive discomfort are very broad symptoms with many causes.

AmlaPlex by Ayush Herbs is a great product but I would not necessarily reach for that when it comes to digestive problems. I like AmlaPlex for a general immune support product which is taken daily to tonify and strengthen the immune system.

First thing I would suspect is to try and remove dairy products from your diet. Try this for a week and see if your symptoms go away or lessen significantly.

Some causes of stomach pain, bloating and general digestive discomfort:
- lactose intolerance
- lack of stomach acid
- lack of pancreatic enzyme secretion
- lack of bile secretion
- bile duct blockage
- overgrowth of undesirable bacteria or yeasts
- menstruation
- ovarian cancer

Try mixing a teaspoon of Apple Cider Vinegar, juice from a slice of lemon into a 1 cup of filtered water. Sip slowly.

Eat 15 minutes after drinking the apple cider vinegar, lemon and water mixture.

If your symptoms decrease significantly, then you likely have low stomach acid.

If you prefer taking a supplement rather than mixing apple cider vinegar, lemon juice and water, consider taking a supplement designed to assist with low stomach acid, such as UltraGest by Biogenesis

If you have difficulties digesting proteins, ie beans, soy, fish, your pancreas is not functioning at an optimum level. Consider taking one capsule of Vegizyme by Biogenesis with each meal containing protein.

If you have taken any antibiotics without taking any probiotics, ie acidophilus, then you may be experiencing bacterial overgrowth or yeast overgrowth.

To help regain healthy bacteria in your digestive system, consider HLC High Potency by Pharmax. Take 2 capsules with dinner. When the bottle is empty, see if your symptoms have reduced. If not, another bottle may be needed and/or other things added.

If you have a problem digesting fats, your liver is not happy. Consider a liver support supplement such as Liver GI Detox by Pure Encapsulations .

Common signs of not digesting fats well:
- diarrhea or constipation after a high fat meal
- stool floats in the toilet instead of sinking
- general discomfort or pain in the lower rib cage area on the right side.
- gray or light colored stools

Some useful tips which may reduce stomach pain, bloating and general digestive discomfort:
- chew your food very well
- do not drink during meals. Drink 15 minutes before and 30 minutes after.
- do not eat desserts following meals.
- do not mix sugars/sweets after protein
- do not mix fruits with protein or carbs. Eat fruits alone.
- do not drink ice cold beverages. Drink them room temperature or mildly cool.
- keep a Food Journal. Write down what you eat, how you feel before and after and see if you can spot any trends to see which foods cause you to feel great or/and poorly.
- do not eat raw foods. Cook, steam, blend, juice your foods. Raw veggies, raw nuts and other uncooked foods can be hard for people to digest.
- only eat when you eat. Do not drive. Do not watch the news. This allows your body to turn on the
parasympathetic nervous system which allows the digestive juices to flow properly. Evidence of this working is to stop and think of biting into a lemon. What happens? You begin to create a lot of saliva in your mouth right? That is digestion and your mind working to help you process your meals. Your mind is powerful. Use it - don't distract it.

To summarize:
- Fat digestion: Liver GI Detox by Pure Encapsulations
- Protein digestion: VegiZyme by Biogenesis
- Belching after meals or lack of hunger in the morning: UltraGest or the Apple Cider Vinegar/Lemon juice drink
- General bloating, digestive upset: HLC High Potency capsules

You may take all these together if you like. They work well as a team. However, the main goal is to determine why you have these symptoms and hopefully you will not have to continue taking these products.

Should you have further questions, please do ask.

Dr Ben

Great Immune Boost
Up until about 5 years ago I would have an average of 3 colds per year. Adding Amla Plex to my daily routine has not only assisted my immune system in many ways but has, I believe, kept me from having even 1 real bout with a cold or flu in the last five years. I never leave home without it!

  • Masking the taste? at 3/20/12 9:52 PM
    • I am a relatively picky eater, and my naturopath has prescribed this paste for me, and I admit, it is a really difficult taste for me to get down. It's not terrible, but it is very strong. Do you have any suggestions for ways to either mask it, or dilute it to make it a little easier to get down?
    • Hello - I recommend mixing in a few ounces of water with a touch of honey or maple syrup - or a touch of lemon - or plain water. I do not recommend juice. AmlaPlex is worth taking! :) Best Dr Ben
