Toenail Fungus Treatment using Saprox

Saprox Natural Antifungal Mud has shown that it eradicates skin fungus. I had my doubts that it could work with tinea unguim (toenail fungus).

Toenail fungus is tough to treat leading many people to take a liver toxic drug: Lamisil.

Some photos of before, during and after treatment of 2 patients using only Saprox for the treatment of toenail fungus:

Left Photo: mild case of Tinea unguim beginning at the nail's edge - where most fungus begins due to either a moist alkaline environment OR trauma. Trauma causes the nail bed to lift thereby allowing the critters to crawl under the nail and set up shop.

Bottom Photo: mild case of Tinea unguim treated successfully using Saprox.

A more severe case of toenail fungus treated with only Saprox:

taken at 10 days into the treatment. Notice the clearing at the base of the nail. This suggests that the Saprox treatments is working.

Bottom Photo:
Taken at 20 days into the treatment. Notice the further clearing at the base of the nail. Also notice that the skin area around the nail is becoming healthier.

Toenail showing fresh application of Saprox:

Application:
After bathing or showering, dry nail well. A warm nail is more permeable to the sulfur-containing mud found in Saprox - this is why I suggest after bathing.

Put just enough Saprox on to cover the nail(s) well. Push Saprox under the nail and around the nail bed.

Saprox dries in about 15 minutes. You may wash it off at this time or leave it on all day. I recommend leaving it on all day as it keeps the area dry preventing warm moisture from feeding the fungus.

Then at the end of the day, remove your socks, wash feet and nail. Dry and reapply. Go watch TV or sleep.

Recommend that you place some kleenex or toilet paper around the affected nails containing Saprox as this keeps it from touching your socks. Then put on your socks. Or you may walk around your home barefoot.

A research abstract describing how Saprox works:

The use of sulfur in dermatology.

Gupta AK, Nicol K.

Division of Dermatology, Department of Medicine, Sunnybrook And Women's College Health Science Center, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. agupta@execulink.com

Sulfur has antifungal, antibacterial, and keratolytic activity. In the past, its use was widespread in dermatological disorders such as acne vulgaris, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, dandruff, pityriasis versicolor, scabies, and warts. Adverse events associated with topically applied sulfur are rare and mainly involve mild application site reactions. Sulfur, used alone or in combination with agents such as sodium sulfacetamide or salicylic acid, has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of many dermatological conditions.

Toenail Fungus Treatment using the Beer Soak

This natural toenail fungus treatment information came to me via a professor of mine during our medical procedures course. I am passing it on to you in hopes that people try this first before resorting to the toxic effects of Lamisil.

Acidophilis Beer Soak: The basic premise behind this odd sounding natural toenail fungus treatment is to soften the nail with the beer, create an acidic environment with vinegar which is beneficial to good bacteria and deadly to fungus and then penetrate the nails with beneficial bacteria to help kill and prevent further recurrences.

Essential Ingredients:

  • Acidophilis sachets containing 125 billion organisms
  • Guiness Stout beer
  • White Vinegar
  • Basin big enough for your feet or hands
  • Time

Natural Toenail Fungus Treatment Procedure:
  • In tub, pour 1 liter of room temperature beer into a basin
  • Add 60 billion live acidophilis
  • Add 1 liter of White Vingear
  • Soak clean feet in the solution for 20 to 30 minutes before bed
  • File down nail(s) with pumice stone or file after soaking. This speeds the treatment as the fungus is under the nailbed - the idea is to get to the nailbed.
  • Store solution at room temperature - avoid heat and sun.
  • Every 5th day, dump the solution and remake using new ingredients.
  • Repeat for 30 days every day.
  • Do twice a day for faster results
What to look for: As the fungus gets killed by this natural toenail fungus treatment, you will notice that the new nail growth from the nail base is coming in clear. This is a good sign. It will take about 3 to 6 months for the infected nails to completely grow out. As long as you keep seeing the nail base come in clean and grow out cleanly, you are on the right track.

[see photo left: toenail fungus is not present at nail base; this is a good sign. click photo to enlarge and view the clean new nail growth at the nail cuticle base. This is after 1.5 weeks after using Saprox Natural Antifungal Mud. I am working on getting Beer Soak photos. Saprox was used here as the nail fungus was mild.]

Mild nail fungus = white spots or full nail is whitish.
Strong nail fungus = thick or yellow

Make sure you do this toenail fungus treatment daily. Make it a routine. Watch some TV, read a book or wash the dishes for 20 minutes. Do not skip a day. If you do, it may take a bit longer than a month but keep at it.

This anti-fungus protocol is an excellent way to help prevent liver damage via Lamisil.

This toenail fungus treatment works best with nails that are not so yellow and thick. If the nails are white looking, this will work well. If the nails are super thick and yellow, it may not work but it is always worth a shot.

If the formula is not strong enough, play with it. Perhaps add some more acidophilis to the mix or more vinegar - or more beer. Play with the concentrations.

If you've any questions, I'm happy to answer them for you.

I estimated the total cost of this procedure to be about $150.00 That is very inexpensive compared to Lamisil - and much healthier to your liver.

Even if you drink a couple Guiness Stouts while you do the soak - it may still be safer than Lamisil on your liver. :)

For very mild cases of toenail fungus, you may want to consider Saprox Antifungal Mud. I am using it on a patient now and we are seeing clearing starting at the base of the nail. Her nail is whitish - not yellow.

Natural Health Forum

Hey Folks -

Sorry no posts lately - final examination week and it's a helluva quarter.

To wet your appetite, I have a natural health forum that is getting some action - especially in the Ask the Med Student category. So if you've a health question - or if you're just plain nosey and want to see what others are asking - stop by.

There are also some excellent resources there. I have been building on it for some time.

Enjoy the Natural Health Forum.

Wish me luck on exams - 5 left. 4 down.

Oncology is the one I'm worried about -

Autoimmune Disease and Toxic World: Linked.

I couldn't have said it better than this researcher - and I dont even have to translate this research for you -

"Autoimmune disorders result from a breakdown of immunologic tolerance leading to an immune response against self-molecules. In most instances the events that initiate the immune response to self-molecules are unknown, but a number of studies suggest associations with environmental and genetic factors and certain types of infections. The concordance of autoimmune diseases among identical twins is virtually always less than 50%, often in the 25-40% range. This observation, as well as epidemic clustering of some autoimmune diseases following xenobiotic exposure, reinforces the thesis that autoimmune disease is secondary to both genetic and environmental factors. In addition, because of individual genetic susceptibilities based not only on major histocompatibility complex differences but also on differences in toxin metabolism, lifestyles, and exposure rates, individuals will react differently to the same chemicals. With these comments in mind it is important to note that there have been associations of a number of xenobiotics with human autoimmune disease, including mercury, iodine, vinyl chloride, canavanine, organic solvents, silica, L-tryptophan, particulates, ultraviolet radiation, and ozone. In addition, there is discussion in the literature that raises the possibility that xenobiotics may also exacerbate an existing autoimmune disorder. In this article these issues are discussed, in particular, the evidence for the role of environmental agents in the initiation or progression of autoimmune conditions. With the worldwide deterioration of the environment, this is a particular important subject for human health. This is best illustrated by the epidemics of eosinophilic myalgia syndrome with shared characteristics that occurred about 20 years ago. Another example is the toxic oil syndrome of Spain in 1981 involving cooking oil led to both acute and chronic disease as well as formation of auto-antibodies to collagen, DNA, and skeletal muscle. Currently the question is risen whether there is a link between environmental estrogens and autoimmune disorders, especially since these illnesses are reported possibly more frequent. Yet for the time being, an answer is not available, since the current state of science with respect to autoimmunity and environmental agents is still in the early stages of hazard identification."

Bottle-Fed Baby Poison: Don't cause it

Microwaving or boiling plastic water bottles with milk inside is a sure way to contaminate baby with phthalates.

Phthalates were found in 100% of urine samples from 289 'normal' persons

Phthalates in baby are way more potent as baby has only a few kilograms of mass compared to an adult.

Phthalates are linked to causing hormone abnormalities in young girls - namely thelarche - which is early breast development.

So how to heat formula or baby food?
Heat it in glass jars either in the microwave or in a double boiler on the stove.

Do not use plastic bottles to heat baby food or formula.

Careful with saran wrap as well. Very high in phthalates - the more flimsy the plastic means the more phthalates there are.

Liver and Heavy Metal Cleanse: Day x? of 21

Sorry folks. The news between now and yesterday was not that interesting and I didn't want to bore you with it. That is why I provided other information about natural health.

However - yesterday was the day I received my Urine Toxic Metal Report.

It is what I expected.
The laboratory analyzed my diluted 3 liters of urine and found these results:

  • Arsenic
  • Cadmium
  • Lead
  • Mercury
  • Tin
Mercury was quite elevated and almost hit the very elevated column.

Lead was second just behind mercury.

The others: arsenic, cadmium, tin were all "within reference range" So what does that mean? Crap.

DMSA is a strong chelator for lead and mercury. So if DMSA chelation pulled arsenic, cadmium, tin as well - that is a strong indicator that my body is loaded with them - and my exposure history supports that as well.

I believe my physician will prescribe oral DMPS and oral DMSA. Why?

DMSA is excellent for lead.
DMPS is excellent for mercury and Arsenic
EDTA is excellent for cadmium, lead and aluminum

My next appointment is tomorrow at 10am so I will get a therapeutic regiman then. I look forward to it.

I know what you are thinking.... "I wonder if I have toxic metals in me?"

Answer: A resounding yes.

It is a question of how many and which ones - not a question if you have any. We all do. Our planet is extremely toxic.

Which heavy metals are present in you - among other goodies?

Take a heavy metal questionnaire provided by the Environmental Working Group.

Oh - and remember - George Bush raised the allowable amount of arsenic in our drinking water. Thanks.

Weak Digestion? A few pointers

If you find yourself suffering from constipation, gas, bloating, diarrhea - try a few simple changes in your habits and you may find a remarkable difference.

Limit drinking with meals:
drinking dilutes stomach acid and stomach acid helps digest your food. Best not to drink during meals at all - drink 30 minutes before and 1 hour after.

Chew well: the more you chew, the more stomach acid and digestive enzymes are released
Relax: being relaxed puts you in a parasympathetic mode which opens the digestive gland ports allowing the digestive enzymes to flow. The sympathetic stress mode closes all these ports and no enzymes are released. Plays a major role.
Don't overeat: eat until you are full and stop. An overfull and stretched stomach causes weakness in the stomach ligaments which cause reflux of food back up into your esophagus - and this leads to heartburn.

Chew gum after meals: this will help produce more stomach acid and help you relax thereby opening the digestive sphincters. Pick xylitol gum - it helps prevent cavities - proven in research.

Don't work and eat: just eat when eating. Mixing tasks doesn't alert your digestive system that food is coming. Smell, sight, and touch all stimulate the digestive glands and if you're busily reading a newspaper or driving down the road, your digestive system won't expect food coming - and then won't digest it. I'm serious here.

Combining all those steps above - and even just a few of them - ought to improve your digestive abilities. This day in age, stress is rampant and so is work but aim to put your health first.

Tell your friends about this. They will appreciate it.

Give these steps a shot and let me know how they work for you...

Nutrient Values in Foods: a Resource

This resource is awesome...and it's by the USDA?!

I haven't looked at it in depth but from what I have seen, I am impressed.

You can quickly view which foods are the highest in your selected nutrient.

So magnesium - buckwheat flour! Never woulda thought.

Check out the USDA National Nutrient Database
