Forced Chemotherapy?

Some real estate judge is forcing Abraham, who has cancer of his lymph system, to re-enter chemotherapy against Abraham's will. Abraham researched which treatment he wanted and is choosing an alternate approach.

Our Neurology professor said it very well - something to the effect that physicians think patients in intense pain with fibromyalgia are faking it. Then our professor went on to say that if a person does not experience pain themselves, they will not believe it real.

Chemo is not fun at all - it may be effective for some cancers but if Abraham wants to choose a different path, by all means it is HIS CHOICE. Not some judge's.

Abraham - you're right - you absolutely should be in charge of your body and choose which treatment you feel is best for you - even if it is no treatment. It is your choice.

I am highly thankful for this family standing ground. Health is a personal choice that should be governed by the own individual or if under age, by the parents.

How can other individuals speak for the life of another? First Amendment? What about freedom of choice?

I think the real fact of the matter is not the choice by the family but the power of the American Medical Association. The AMA is pushing very very hard to make it difficult for naturopathic physicians to gain licensure. The AMA knows there is mounting pressure against current medical practices and alternative medicine is booming full speed ahead with people happily recovering from their ills.

I attend Bastyr University - the USA's most respected natural health university. I will be a ND end of June 2006 and I will face scrutiny my entire life by some medical professionals. That is fine.

I must say that ND's and MD's here in Seattle get along quite well. We work with oncologists all the time communicating back and forth about the patient and determining what is best. That is how medicine should be done - a teamwork effort. MD's for the surgeries and major drugs if needed and the ND's for supportive therapies and sometimes the only therapy if not cancer. By law, in WA state, ND's cannot diagnose cancer nor work on a cancer patient solely. Which is fine - I respect that.

I dont respect the court demanding Abraham to do something against his will on his own body.

Abraham - you're a good man. Stand tall and set a precedence. Be well and kick ass.

Support the new bill - tell your congress people about it.

UPDATE ON July 25th:
Abraham Cherrix DOES NOT have to report to a Norfolk hospital for forced chemotherapy.

That's the ruling Tuesday afternoon by an Accomack County Circuit Court judge, after lawyers for 16-year-old Starchild Abraham Cherrix appealed a ruling by a juvenile court judge.

Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell filed a brief to the Circuit Court Tuesday supporting a stay, arguing that Abraham deserves the right to appeal the order to the Circuit Court before undergoing medical treatment.

Judge Glen Tyler said Abraham and his parents will get a new trial in Circuit Court as soon as possible.

The judge also returned full custody of Abraham to his parents. That ruling suspends an order by the juvenile court judge that required Abraham's parents to share custody with the Accomack County Department of Social Services.

This is a new terrority for the American Association for Health Freedom (AAHF) and Health Freedom Foundation (HFF). We were contacted last week by Sharon Smith (the Cherrix family representative) and since then we have been hearing about other cases where the parents and authorities clashed over a minor’s treatment. This is not about choosing an "alternative" treatment but about what is the legal (and constitutional) rights of parents and the state system in regards to children's health. We are gathering information and will be developing a national solution to this critical and heartbreaking issue. We are assisting the family as best as we can with legislative, legal, and PR efforts. Please share your stories and ideas (send to healthfreedom2000@yahoo.com).

This is only the beginning of the war between Natural health and the medical profession and pharmaceutical industry. For years we were told by the medical community that vitamins and supplements were a waste of money. Now they are pushing Congress to legislate laws to make vitamins and supplements available with prescriptions only.

Cancer treatment has gone nowhere with the medical community, while the natural community has continued to make great strides, all the while being threatened by such august authority as the FDA, whom we all know is way out somewhere in left field.

The solution? Start hammering away at your elected officials. Let them know you will not stand for them telling you something they know little or nothing about. It's your choice!
