Avian Flu Treatments? Elderberry extract? What? Not a drug!?
I must say I love the latest study that came out on how to battle Avian Flu. While it was only an in vitro study [in lab - not in human], it still showed some very statistically valid results.
The avian flu virus was sitting there happy in its petri dish until Sambucol Elderberry extract came in and sat on it. And boy did it. It suffocated it. Elderberry extract by Sambucol was 99% effective in neutralizing the avian flu virus.
"A team at Retroscreen Virology, an institute associated with the University of London, said that the extract was at least 99 per cent effective against the H5N1 virus and significantly neutralized the infectivity of the virus in cell cultures."
However, one must clearly know that this was done in a laboratory setting and not in a human trial. There is a big difference. There are human studies which have proven Sambucol effective in shortening the duration of cold and flu symptoms in general.

It cracks me up when people state there is no research done on natural products. They simply are not looking. It is everywhere and I cannot keep up with the speed in which it publishes.
Get your elderberry extract. Damn I wish I sold Sambucol! Maybe I will....soon!
Be healthy,

Ben, this is good news. BUT. What concerns me about elderberry versus the avian flu is that it's a form of flu that can kill healthy, vigorous young people via cytokine storms; the immune system basically goes berserk. Using elderberry concerns me because it is so effective at boosting the immune system. It stands to reason that that may not be the best approach with avian flu. If, however, it's effective at actually killing the virus rather than just enhancing the immune system--well, that's very good news indeed. If a pandemic hits many will be left on their own with no access to medical care, just because the system will be so overwhelmed. We all need to be researching what we can do on our own to help our families, friends and neighbors should the worst happen.
good points lynn.
that is why i cautiously stated that it was an in vitro study - not in vivo. yet the study did show a 99%+ kill rate of the virus - but there was not a human body in that dish so the cytokines were not unleashed on anything else but the virus itself.
id write some more but its been a loong day - wiped.
now to watch a flick -
best to ya
