Yellow Ooze from Finger: A personal inquiry
QUESTION:
Hi,
I recently received an avulsion on the pad of my finger. It's not horrible and I didn't go to the hospital because my brother is an EMT (I am in school for it) and he said it didn't need stitches. He told me to flap the skin back over the wound so it would heal. Now, 5 days after the incident, a yellow liquid is building up around the edges of the wound, under the skin, and seeps out when I happen to bump it. I have two questions. First, what is the yellow liquid? Second, my the wound doesn't have any feeling and I was wondering if I would regain the feeling.
Thank you very much for your time,
Seeps

ANSWER:
Seeps -
Sounds like you have an infection in there. You may consider soaking it in warm to hot salted water a couple times a day. This will help draw out the infection and salt kills most bacteria.
The limited feeling may be due to the inflammation. Inflammation can compress nearby nerves and when compressed they do not transmit very well. The feeling likely may come back once the swelling is gone. The swelling likely will go when the wound becomes clean and free of bacteria.
Get and keep the area very very clean. Have a trained paramedic do this for you - or someone who knows what they are doing.
